Shawnee Hills Wine Trail

Giant City State Park

Walk through towering sandstone bluffs. Enjoy a wildflower walk along Trillium Trail. Go rappelling at Shelter One or Devils Standtable. Featuring 7 different trails with varying levels of difficulty, you're only a 5 minute drive from outdoor adventure.

Little Grassy Lake

Little Grassy Lake is a 1,200 acres reservoir in southern Illinois, created by the damming of Little Grassy Creek, a tributary of Crab Orchard Lake and the Big Muddy River.

Touch of Nature Mountain Bike Trail

Enjoy a ride off the beaten path at Touch of Nature's Mountain Bike Trails. Featuring 12 miles of interconnected trails all accessed from the main trailhead just 12 minutes from Shawnee Hills Hideaway.

Havisham Bourbon Bar

This 1800's Flour Mill has been transformed into a fantastic bourbon bar with vintage charm and tasty drinks. Don't miss out on a chance to enjoy this incredible experience during our visit. Just 20 minutes from the Hideaway.

Makanda Boardwalk

This historic boardwalk dates back to the 1890s. Today it offers galleries featuring quality handcrafts created by local artisans and a country store. Grab an ice cream at the country store or enjoy a stroll through the Rainmaker's Garden during your visit. Just 7 minutes from your suite.

Giant City Lodge

Built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 30's and finished in 1942, Giant City Lodge is known for their family style chicken dinners featuring fried chicken, green beans, chicken & dumplings and all the best fixins. They offer a variety of other foods as well but this southern style dinner is the most popular. The Lodge's season is the first Friday of February through mid December. Only 3.6 miles from the Hideaway.

The Iron Whisk

Enjoy classic fare with an iron flare. The Iron Whisk is a MUST try during your visit. Using local, seasonal ingredients, their ever-changing breakfast/brunch menu will ensure you start your day on the right foot. Check out their famous bloody mary or seasonal drink menu while you're there. **Be sure to bring cash as they do not accept cards.** Just 12 minutes or 6.6 miles from the Hideaway.

Honey Heist Mead Co.

The Honey Heist Mead Co is a small farm-style meadery amidst the scenic Shawnee National Forest in the heart of Southern Illinois and located just 12 minutes from your suite. They specialize in mead made with fruit and spice common to the region.

Rendleman Orchards

From peaches and apples to smoothies and ciders and flower fields and pumpkin patches, you're sure to enjoy your experience at this local farm market.

Shawnee Bluffs Canopy Tour

Soar through the canopy of the Shawnee National Forest and fulfill your sense of adventure. This eco-friendly tour consists of aerial suspension bridges and eight ziplines.

Bald Knob Cross of Peace

A national symbol of faith, this 111-foot-tall cross, when illuminated at night, can be seen over an area of 7,500 square miles atop the most prominent elevation in Southern Illinois. While 16 miles away from your Wine Country Suite, enjoy a leisurely walk or one mile drive to the top of our hill and you'll have an amazing view of the cross over Flamm Orchards apple trees.
